When patients were assessed after two years, overall functioning, social functioning, and mental health symptoms were similar between the groups. Levels of social functioning and satisfaction with care were also similar. Patients offered a place in an art therapy group were more likely to attend sessions than those offered a place in an activity group.
However, the levels of attendance at both types of group was low, with 39 percent of those referred to art therapy and 48 percent of those referred to activity groups not attending any sessions. Alfred Pasieka. Laguna Design. Thierry Berrod, Mona Lisa Production.

The occasional goat who manages to be a schizophrenic after the drug has left his system is easily separated from the sheep who go back to normal — he has come from the right sort of family and probably would have achieved schizophrenia even without the benefit of medical research.
Observing such a family one is struck by the central figure, the mother, and notes at once that the schizophrenic owes to her his flexibility and his exasperating skill in frustrating people who attempt to influence him.
Just as the child in a circus family learns from his parents how to maneuver on the slack wire, so does the schizophrenic learn from his mother how to maneuver acrobatically in interpersonal relations. To achieve schizophrenia a man must have experienced a mother who has a range of behavior unequalled except by the most accomplished of actresses.
She is capable when stung which occurs when any suggestion is made to her of weeping, promising violence, expressing condescending concern, threatening to go mad and fall apart, being kind and pious, and offering to flee the country if another word is said. Yet for the true flowering of schizophrenia, even such a mother is not enough.
To balance the flexibility provided by mother, the schizophrenic must have a father who will teach him to remain immovable. The father of the schizophrenic has a stubbornness unequalled among men as well as the skill to keep a woman in the state of exasperated despair which helps mother make use of her full range of behavior. When one considers the odds that this type of uncommon man will find such an uncommon woman, and the even more astonishing odds that two such people could copulate, it is clear at once that the incidence of true schizophrenia could not be high.
Often such parents report that the copulation only occurred when one or both was asleep and that is why they had to get married, but even granting this possibility the odds against schizophrenia being common do not change appreciably.
Finally, it is important, although not essential, that a schizophrenic have as part of his environment a certain type of brother or sister. This sibling must be the kind of person who is hated on contact — a do-gooder, a good-in-schooler, a sweet, weak, kind bastard of a sibling who can provide the contrast for the future schizophrenic by showing him up to be the complete idiot his family expects him to be.
Whatever this particular child does is of exaggerated importance to the parents, and he soon learns that touching his nose can set off an earthquake in the family. The parents feel themselves to be insignificant wretches, lost souls incapable of any human accomplishment although many of them make rather good scientists.
When the schizophrenic sides with his mother against father, father can only protest weakly since he is joining his mother against his wife. The average schizophrenic has had a lifetime balancing conflicting family triangles, each one focused upon his every action, so that whatever he says and does in one triangle has repercussions in another.
If he should please his grandparents, he will displease his parents, and should he agree with any one person he is certain to antagonize several others. This complicated mode of adaptation makes his behavior appear rather peculiar. The schizophrenic also takes for granted what social scientists are only beginning to realize — the true disturbance in human life comes when secret coalitions occur across generations or other power hierarchies this is the Second Law of Human Relations.

Not knowing what’s real, not being aware of the disease. Claiming what is seen to be concrete, not accepting the disease. The list goes on, but we could never understand what’s happening in their brain. Not even 10% of it.
