I'm still mezmorized, by this one. Pick this CD up at any cost. Just wish some of these songs was played in Breaking Bad, cause these tracks was as pure as Walter White's cook.
Super album. One person found this helpful. I took a gamble when purchasing this album since I knew very little about Youth Lagoon. And I was pleasantly surprised! I still don't know much about the band itself, but I definitely dig their beats!
They use a lot of fun percussion that layer into the song giving it more depth. Initially I thought I'd be bored with the slower beats and melancholy singing, but after listening to it a few times through I have developed a finer appreciation for their simplistic sound. I definitely would suggest this album to anyone looking for some chill background music.
I worked with his mom who asked me to listen to the album. I thought "Ah, another proud parent" and gave it a listen. I was very surprised and ended up buying a copy.
I listen to it quite a bit still, and still enjoy it just as much. While I really do love Youth Lagoon and this album, I don't feel that there was the same improvement in sound quality with this vinyl that you get in other ones. Most records that I buy reveal new parts of the music to me, but this album sounded just like the digital format but with less bass. Still love the music though. I love this album. It is great to just sit down and listen to and also great to leave on as background noise.
I would recommend that you listen to it elsewhere before buying the record as it is unique sounding. But if you enjoy beautiful low fi indie music you will love this. On one hand, there is so much in this record that could be very much like other low-fi projects of this sound and nature.
But this album stands out. The melodies, the builds, the electronic percussion, and the profound cohesiveness of the record as a whole makes it unique. And very, very good--good careful, intentional songcraft. As winter sets in, I'm especially happy to have a new warm record like this. But I expect it will be great year-round record, too. It's also absolutely necessary to check out the official music video for the track "Montana". Vinyl was in great quality.
One of my favorite albums. Highly recommend! See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Every track on this album is fantastic. Put it on, lie back and prepare to get wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket of electronic beats, haunting reverb-drenched vocals and hypnotic melodies.
However many times I listen it stays beautiful and fresh. I discovered this from the film Kings of Summer which uses the track "17", but I don't think that's even my favourite track.
Montana, if anyone's interested. Report abuse. I had listened to some of the tracks on Spotify before buying it and it's very good :. Perfect condition, good dispatch from US to UK. The Sound Quality of this vinyl is below average. What other items do customers buy after viewing this item? For Emma, Forever Ago [Vinyl]. I've Seen - Single Worms - Single Similar Artists See All. The album was written and recorded during a difficult period in the life of Powers, who was receiving counseling for anxiety which was causing him to develop panic attacks and a debilitating fear of death.
This anxiety is referenced throughout the album and is a major theme along with fear, interpersonal conflicts, tension and heartache. To enable him to save up enough money to record the album with local engineer and friend Jeremy Park, he busked with his keyboard late at night in downtown Boise. He also ceased his counseling sessions, which had a negative effect on his relationship with his girlfriend.
The album was recorded at Park's Kung Pow! Park's in-laws' large garage and shower room were used as reverb chambers , a bass amp was recorded in a master bedroom closet and the main vocals were recorded in Park's living room to enable different mic distances to be used.
Once the album was complete, Powers planned to release it online to garner interest, with the intention of distributing the full album for free online. The name of the album is a reference to Powers' feelings of hibernation through the process of writing the album. When the album was finished, and his mental state had changed, he felt that his "year of hibernation" was complete. The album artwork was originally going to feature a picture of Powers as a child, but this changed following a family vacation with his parents and brothers.
The Seattle Times described the picture as "a glowing scene captured by a suburban, middle-class kid in love with the moment, wanting to hold it forever". Two music videos were released in support of the album, for tracks "July" and "Montana".
Both videos were directed by Tyler T. Williams, a friend of Powers. To promote the album, Youth Lagoon embarked on a date American tour in November The album has received mostly positive reviews from critics.
